An inside look at the hacking & troublemaking of FAT Lab. Video by PBS Off Book.
As we become more and more engaged with the internet in every aspect of our lives, powerful questions have arisen regarding the ownership of digital media and information, the relationship between corporations, governments, and individuals online, the power of pop culture influence, and the dissolving border between the digital and physical worlds. Taking these issues head-on is The Free Art & Technology (F.A.T.) Lab. An international group of 21 artists, hackers, thinkers, designers, developers, and entrepreneurs, F.A.T. Lab employs art, activism, pop culture, and a wealth of knowledge about how the internet works to create projects that challenge people and institutions to think a little deeper about this new world we all live in.

Developers — we’re proud to release a beta version of the VHX API and embeddable player, first announced at hackday.tv in NYC this weekend. Check out the docs and sample code at dev.vhx.tv.
- Use the VHX player to add seamless, continuous-play video to your website. Just pass in a list of Vimeo and YouTube URLs and even raw video files!
e.g.megaplaya.api_playQueue([{ url: "http://vimeo.com/2", url: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPd4PTOkUhg" }]);
- The VHX REST API lets you easily read and write data to VHX accounts, e.g. api.vhx.tv/jamiew/shared.json
- We’re also providing beta access to our new Playlists feature, which lets you build and organize video mixtapes. Here’s an example.
We used the VHX API to write some cool hacks like Music Video Genome, a Last.fm+VHX mashup, and NONSTOPTV, a YouTube search, instant-on, fullscreen video app. Check out more on the Featured Apps page.
Join the VHXdev discussion list for announcements and chatter, and find us on irc://irc.freenode.net/#vhx
